Do you know your industry? What do you know about designers, their muses, the celebrity/designer “partnerships”, and who’s hot and who’s not? What are the leading fashion magazines, bloggers and TV shows? Who are the coolest journalists?
How to get your face in front of their cameras!
Preparing for your interview: learn how to find your light, your best side or angle, modulate your voice, articulate your words and leave ‘em wanting more!
Key points to consider to effectively market & publicize YOU!
The interview: process and outcome (how to ensure you get what you want OR how to put a positive spin on a bad interview experience)
Followed by Open Discussion, and Q&A session
Preparation/advice for Day 2

Day 2

Guest Speaker - Canadian media personality (30 mins.)
Interview role-playing and video taping

Each participant should come prepared for a 3-4 minute taped interview with an established media personality who will also be a guest speaker. (1hr)

Feed-back: Each interview will be reviewed & critiqued and participants given recommendations for specific areas needing attention & suggestion for improving interview skills. (1½hrs.)

Each participant will receive a course handbook with useful information and industry links, plus a video file of their mock interviews for future reference.

Howling on Thanksgiving!

Here we are in October, celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving and it feels more like summer than ‘fall. This week, lots of media happening to support book signing event at Books for Business store Oct 19th for ELIOT HOPPE (www.eliothoppe.com), Canada’s pre-eminent body language expert and deception detector.

First we do Global TV’s new Morning Show Toronto, plus Newstalk 1010 radio and CIUT-FM with more news hits being confirmed. Eliot is brilliant and can teach you how to detect lies, uncertainties and insecurities in those we meet or do business with. Must-have skills for those brutal “first dates”, too!

Also growing attendance and building awareness for SCREEN LOUNGE, 20 College Street, Toronto, a gorgeous new resto-lounge at Yonge & College that offers Asian/American fusion cuisine plus designer sushi. Recently signed on to work with amazing young (17!) filmmaker JOSEPH PROCOPIO, publicizing his latest film “Onion Skin” currently screening on the int’l film festival circuit. NORMIE ROWE, 60′S OZ SUPERSTAR STILL THRILLS THIS FAN

Spent Sunday afternoon downloading all my favourite Aussie tunes from my teenage years growing up in Perth….Johnny Farham, The Easybeats, Johhny Young and my very first teen crush (yeah, wet dreams an all!) NORMIE ROWE. In the mid to late 60′s, Normie ruled the pop charts with hits such as Ooh La La, Pride & Joy, The Stones That I Throw, It’s Not Easy….the 45′s of which I’ve carted around the world and consider as my most valued treasures. Normie was gorgeous (still is, I might add) and his posters were on my bedroom wall, inside my high school locker, covered my school binders and I even had small pics inside my wallet. Yes, I was a most ardent fan.

Most North Americans don’t know this but Australia fought in the Vietnam War and had conscription. Horror of horrors – right as his career was peaking, Normie was called up and sent to ‘Nam. While he was there, every night millions of teenage Aussie girls (me included) watched TV newscasts, waiting to see if our Normie was sent into action on the front line. I remember local newscasters starting each nightly “Normie Report” with a “yes, he’s still alive” comment…and then we could all sleep peacefully at night. When my family dragged me over to the UK in the mid-70′s, I lost track of Normie but thanks to the web, I’ve watched old TV footage on YouTube and now my iPhone carries all his greatest hits.

NASCAR SEASON ENDS WITH HISTORY-MAKING 4th CHAMPIONSHIP FOR JOHNSON

Sorry for not blogging for so long but after the amazing 4th straight NASCAR championship by Jimmy Johnson, I needed a rest. At least my fave driver (#16 Greg Biffle) made the top ten this season (7th in the championship standings). Congrats, Greg, and I hope you have a terrific Christmas/New Year season off. Can’t wait for Daytona in the spring, and am looking fwd to joining Greg on his web radio show with my “beaver report”. Yeah, Canadian NASCAR ain’t as exciting but at least the garages and pit rows smell just as good and the noise gets me all goosey! Until next year…..vroooom vroooom racing fans…and don’t forget to pick up one of my NASCAR books for that Christmas stocking!

Monday Oct. 19th

As many of you know, I am a huge NASCAR fan and have been a very vocal supporter of the #16 Ford driven by the brilliant Greg Biffle. In fact, my second book, “Hottest Stock Car Drivers” was dedicated to Biffle after his spectacular 2005 Championship campaign.

Each Monday night at 9pm (Eastern time), Greg webcasts live from his radio/tv studio and tonight I had the pleasure of being on with him, chatting about this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup (the Biff is currently in 7th place in the Championship with 5 races left to run).

Taking the conversation outside of racing for a moment, I suggested that the Biff should go on Dancing With the Stars, just as Indy Car Champion Helio Castroneves did 2 seasons ago. I bet Greg that he, a stock car racer, could kick the open-wheel racer’s ass on the dance floor and challenged him to a rumba/burn-out after his next win! Greg took up the gauntlet and throughout the show, he and his posse of wild-and-crazy guys referred to the “Dancing With the Stars” challenge I threw down. Very cool.

Thanks for logging on and checking out my brand new website. I’ve been a busy little dingo over these past couple of weeks, getting ready for the Toronto Int’l Film Festival (TIFF). Am producing an exciting webTV interview series Talking Wine with the Stars, with The Wine Ladies, the gorgeous and sexy Georgia and Susanne, and we start shooting tomorrow…yikes, less than 24hrs to go!

Stars being interviewed include uber model Cheryl Tiegs; Canada’s #1 celebrity journo, Shinan Govani, who has his new and very dishy book Bold Face Names in bookstores now; TIFF Founder Bill Marshall who tells it old-school; even Jim Treliving, my favourite dragon from CBC’s hit TV show Dragon’s Den is dropping in for a glass of wine and a chat; and many more…I’ll blog and post pics through TIFF.

My favourite Aussie mate, Hugh Jackman, is coming in to town, too, so this wily old dingo is setting traps for him baited with jars of Vegemite and Pollywaffle chockie bars from Down Under!! And if that failed, I’m polishing up my boomerang just in case …..too-roo for now (that’s Aussie slang for bye-bye)
